When I got to playing I was looking at lancer, I know I know but airsoft megastore had the lancer mmc at 120$ so I lucked out for my beginner. Its been 4 yrs and its still running no issues, I have bought other brand guns but that one is still my go to every weekend.

I started with a g&g cm16 srl and it's still running strong, did have one issue and someone who was borrowing it dropped it and broke the motor contacts. Switched out for a Krytac high torque and haven't had any other issues

Is it normal for a mosfet, motor and fuse to get hot after shooting the gun for a bit, I have a G&G Arp9 with a 20c 11.1v lipo battery and I spam the trigger in semi a lot. Is this going to destroy the internals after a bit?

Hey Johnathon, Loving the show as always. I know I shouted out Purple Helmet a few weeks back, but I wanted to do a bit of shameless promotion :P Myself and two other smallish channels (Thin Brown Line and Sons of Adrenaline Airsoft) have started a colab podcast discussion video thingy together. Part of the first attempt is up on my channel and the other parts are hosted on the other two channels. I'm not gonna lie, we're still ironing out the technical issues with it, but our next one (which is coming soon) should be better! I'd love to know your thoughts on it and what you think we could do better :)

P.S. If you haven't seen it, Sons of Adrenaline are known for their wacky humour vids and they may have made a parody video about airsoft "Celebrities"... Might be worth checking out :D

Please talk about Elite Force wanting to sell OXO plastic bbs to the public. OXO as most people know are harmful to people, and animals as well as they do not degrade unless put under extreme heat... even if they do break down they only degrade visibly while on a molecular level OXO breaks into micro plastics that people can inject from the air causing cancer. Surely your relationship with Elite Force makes responding to this quite challenging but as big voice in the community I hope you can say your piece regardless of your friendship to Elite Force. Thanks.

Hey Jonathan!
I used to play airsoft incredibly regularly and even helped build a team and got some local exposure in Richmond, VA. Unfortunately I moved away from Richmond back in the beginning of 2015 and havnt picked up airsoft since. Ive recently started watching some your videos and have been feeling the pull to play again. What are some of the biggest things that have changed since late 2014/early 2015 and do you have any recommendations about how to get back "into" the game? I have a few guns that have been in storage but are in rough shape and almost all my gear is unusable. Thanks for the awesome content!

PS I also have a few videos on my account. Nothing great, but Im hoping to expand the library as I slowly acclimate back into the game. Thanks!

Tips for Entry & budget and midrange options that are overall pretty good:
Starter pistol : stti nbb mk23, it is €40 and as long you do not add the fake suppressor you got one of the best non upgraded pistols there are with great upgrades widely available!
~€100 Budget mid range pistol: ICS has some great gbb budget pistols which are reliable, also the ASG CZ pistols are great value for the money.
~€160 Budget AR: G&G combat machine (personal favorite 2.0) also Specna Arms make great starters which are ver comparable to the reliability of G&G.
~ €240 Mid range AR: you want some premium but do not want to pay the full price, ICS prealeader. It has their awesome split gearbox design and High quality polymer body.
~€150 Budget AK: the cyma ak's are great starters (although do not expect it to be perfect which counts for everything in this list) you can get really nice bodies of wood&metal and are great upgradeplatvorms!
€225 (up to €400) Mid to high range AK: E&L and LCT make the best (Russian) AK's on the market there are a lot of discussions online which is better but there is no clear answer. If you choose E&L buy Gen 2 or newer!

In our group, I think we have a total of 8 gen 2 Lancers. This is our second season with them and they are still chugging along great. We recently all attended a "real field" for an open play with them and they all performed beautifully. I recommend at least .25g or heavier bbs. Overall, if your new to the hobby and budget strapped, they are great guns to get onto the field.

I have the matrix 7in RIS rail M4 version.....the thing shoots like a laser with a regular 11.1 lipo...mosfet, electronic trigger,quick change spring.....you.cannot beat.it for the 135$ on sale I paid.....I've gotten a ton of kills with it.....so much that I bought the gear box separate and placed it in my older gen 2 LT19B from lancer tactical....brand new gun now....so it's all about the homework when going for sub 200$ guns....lancer tactical has a whole.lineup of they proline and proline hybrids that are phenomenal.....

On a budget you won't find an HPA. The advice I have given is to start with a decent AEG and upgrade to HPA after the guts need to be replaced.

Elite force glock CAN use the we mags.. the difference is the gas seal between the mag and the loading nozzle.

I myself agree with Johnathon. Buy the elite force mags for elite force glocks. The head ache you get trying to change the seals is not worth the savings in cash.

Fyi - the eliteforce glock mags cup the loading nozzle... the we are flat and do not. That's the difference. That's why the we mags give less power.

@Inept Tactics .. I have read the "because we say so" part on their web site. Ask Elite Force to send you their test results. Then ask HPA. Don't take my word for it, compare the test results for yourself.

I deal with third party testing all the time with plastics among other things. Honestly, I think I'll just send a bottle of BBs out for testing to see for myself.

@Inept Tactics .. Think about every single product around you right now. No matter where you are or what you're doing. Don't you think a motivated person could re-engineer whaterver they want. And here we're talking about just a single piece of plastic.

All I want to know is the testing results. How the testing was done. They make some wild claims, but back them with nothing. Zero science.

I do use their BBs. They run great in AEGs and HPA guns. I was simply curious about the claims and a huge flame war broke out. Funny.

At risk of starting a flame war... here we go..
It boils down to Elite Force vs HPA. They both claim to have bio BBs. EF is willing to share the data on their claim along with the test results. HPA makes a similar claim. Even saying theirs is better but will NOT share any of the test results. They say their info is proprietary, but won't back up the claims with any sort of proof. Apparently we are all supposed to accept "because we said so" as good enough. EF is taking heat because of OXO which can produce micro plastics. Again, crickets from HPA.
And thus the controversy is born.

I know the reasons people recommend M4 based platforms for a starting point, but why don't airsoft youtubers ever seem to consider that it might be a double edged sword? As in, BECAUSE of the part support and customization options, it can be overwhelming or make them feel like they are forced to stay with M4 platforms as future weapons so they can retain compatibility and such?

WE mags fit in the Glock 19 snugly. They will NOT void the warranty. I noticed no performance difference in mine with the EF mag compared to the WE mag. The only difference is that the slide does not lock back 100% of the time.

Save $22, and get the WE mags. My opinion.

My first lancer tactical was 110$ and that thing performed great for about two years before breaking! Honestly one of my better purchases in this hobby. However, I’ve been warned by the tech at Gi Tactical, who I’m friends with, that Lancer keeps there prices down via lax quality control. Meaning a gun from them could last 2 years like mine or 2 minutes...

There’s people of every age who play. One guy at my local field is at least 60 years old.

As for the best M4- series AEG, the G&G Combat Machine line are great for a $150-$250 price range. Higher end rifles would be the Krytac line, or VFC Avalon series, which both run around $350.

We've covered a few of the cheap guns we keep in our arsenal, we've actually covered them more than our higher end guns because we feel they are pretty important to the sport. These are guns we keep on hand for new or only every once in a while players that come play with us, and honestly, those that have skill can keep up with those running some of the higher end and custom stuff. We love our upper end guns and our customs, but there is always a place for those budget guns, budget guns have helped us introduce several people to a fun sport!

Some people straight up take a new gun and tap that thing straight out of the box. Me personally I'd take a gun i have already and if i wanted to tap it I would do itn waiting till it breaks is alright if you want to save money. But if you want to now and you have the cash go for it!

Hey Johnathon, I've got an elite force glock 19. I've replaced the hop-up adjustment arm (first one broke trying to bend it, and slightly bent the new steel one) and even replaced the hop-up adjustment wheel. I even added an I-Key. It WILL NOT hop! Any suggestions? About the only thing left is to try an upgraded bucking or sell it. Any idea?

Hey John I want to recommend Dockers Gaming for a feature. He is a player at my local field and honestly he is more of an airsofter than a youtuber which I think is a merit because he takes criticism, compliments and comments in good faith. His content is high quality, well made, well structured, frequent and consistent. And while he is the classic highlight reel guy, he always shows the flow of the game, the thoughts of him and his team, he showcases the fun side of the community by putting focus on jest and not rage, he doesn't feature cheaters for views. Most importantly he shows his mistakes, admits his faults and genuinely inspires a better perspective on Airsoft.

The CYMA Ak's, P90 and G36 are some entry level guns that are reliable and a possible upgrade weapon. Also, the CM16 Raider is known as for being a good entry level guns, Specna Arms and LCT are pretty good as well.

@Xen Airsoft and Stuff thanks I've been practicing these techniques with my wife, but I've never been up against a speed softer, and I've seen one of these guys take down a whole squad. Would these techniques work on speedsofters, knowing that most of the time they're unpredictable?

I don’t know what Jonathan would say, but as someone who also watches UF Pro and practices room clearing I’d definitely recommend utilizing the tactics they teach you, specifically techniques regarding one man CQB and/or CQB with a wingman (unless you have a whole squad you play and train with of course). Eli’s tactics make perfect sense and considering that airsoft retains a good amount of the factors of real CQB (avoiding alerting your target too early, proper room slicing speed, human reaction time, etc.) it’d be a good idea to employ those methods. But do be sure to combine those tactics with good weapon handling habits like muzzle and trigger discipline as well as good weapon handling and stance.

You’re only real problem would be speed-softers as they don’t follow a conventional form of combat

Monday Q&A on Thursday woot!
Joke aside, I know a guy, he got an M4 from Big 5 sporting goods. It's an AEG, cheap plastic, had a proprietary battery cable (it's not Tamiya or Deans), the mags aren't compatible with normal brands, and "accurate" distance was maybe 60 feet. I told him if he saved up, he could have gotten either a Matrix or a Lancer Tactical for around $110-130 depending on the model. He took it to a game, and we were on opposite teams, he said his gun couldn't reach even against others pistols. I felt bad, and let him borrow my $100ish Matrix I got from a Box of Awesomness. He said it was night and day. Although he paid $65 for it (the normal price for the Big5 gun was $90) he learned just to save for a decent gun.

I agree with your sentiment about spending just a little bit more. sometimes it can feel like you will never afford that upgrade, kit, or airsoft gun. But practicing patience and saving pays off far more.

It truly depends on the manufacturer. I have some VERY good low cost Airsoft guns still functional and very effective to date. Plus I have some high end ones too. Buyer beware I guess

Yes and no, this is a controversial question. In my opinion yes it does but it also depends on a lot of other things as well as a longer barrel and it only differs on significantly longer barrel, a few inches you won't notice, but a foot and a tighter barrel you can see the difference.

Longer barrels will increase muzzle velocity, which given the same accuracy will make you shoot farther. However, as Toby said your accuracy and range are more dependent on hopup, barrel bore diameter, and quality of barrel.
