It's certainly awesome, but because of potential concerns with claims being denied, I think it's an important topic. Liability forms are only meant to provide protection from assumed injuries based on the types of common contact in that sport. Some of these may fall outside the precedence.
The exact reasoning you gave regarding insurance coverage is why these TAG launchers aren't allowed at quite a lot of airsoft sites here in the UK: insurance won't cover injuries sustained by what is essentially a 40mm pyrotechnic launcher. You normally only see these things at milsim games for their added realism.
I do think TAG rounds walk the fine line of being a little too unsafe, especially when you see them being used to hit people directly as in this video.
I worked in insurance for years in both property and vehicle and the one misconception I always ran into was people believing their coverage truly covered everything.
Now when I walk into a business and see "fun" stuff I always ask what their coverage limits are and if they've contacted their agent or a specialist to verify it is covered under their contract. When it's left to the mercy of ignorance you can either expect arbitration and a lawsuit; followed by bankruptcy. Unfortunately, it also sets the precedence.
Because of my insurance experience I pay for legal retainment year round through a discounted policy offered by my wife's employer.
In the end I'd still play, and just be more careful. Risk V.S. Fun, I'm team fun.
