You also get people who look around and if they cant see who shot them they assume its a riccochet or a stray from other action.
But in all honesty cheating is not as rampant as these videos make it seem. Cheaters dont get to play consistently because they get caught and they get banned. You see it so much in these videos because cheaters can make for good content.

The owner of the field was once ejected from a scenario for arguing with one of his judges over whether or not a smudge from a tree was a hit. It was great.
(I should add the judge in question was his younger brother who owns most of the equipment in the field's shop)
The fact that it's a game and unlike paintball, you will never know and have to assume people are liars and cheaters.

Depends on the firearm, cartridge, etc.
Easiest to do on small calibers. 22LR can be made so quiet that I ofter get asked if I'm actually shooting rounds at the range (no ear protection, don't need it).
